Living In The Moment

Colton is my puppy. We just had play time and I put him in his crate for his nap. Then the crying started… more treats? Likely! Not to be left alone? Probably!

I tried to tell him that his puppy friend was coming over and he needs rest. I explained he had just come from a booster shot and he’s going to be tired.

No, I don’t expect he heard that. But it did get me thinking… to a puppy, does an earlier trip or a future occurrence even exist?

How much of my life do I live in the moment? How often am I fully immersed in what I am doing, without thinking or planning the next thing?

If I’m not in this moment, where am I? I’m in the future, stressing about an upcoming appointment or excitedly thinking of an upcoming vacation. I’m in the past, thinking I should have gone to bed earlier last night so I would not be so tired today. I’m not Here, not Now.

What would life look like if I spent more time being present in the moment? There is a lot more energy and power now since I’m not expending energy anywhere else. And I can extract more from the experience I’m in – which means that I’m not even the same person who is going to take that next action that I tried so hard to plan for.

What does it look like to you?
